Graduate Software Engineer

If you are an engineering or science graduate looking for a challenging role then you may want to join us as a Graduate Software Engineer (LabVIEW). Working as part of a small software development team you will be involved in developing software and systems for a range of applications including measurement and control, machine automation, and process control systems.

  • Creating project documentation including system specifications, test plans and user manuals
  • Creating software design documents
  • Creating graphical user interfaces
  • Creating LabVIEW code for realtime, FPGA and Microsoft platforms
  • Developing proof of concept code, for example testing new hardware or processes

The role will include significant training both internally on a one to one basis, and externally with National Instruments.

Salary: from £21,000 p.a.

Requirements: Electrical/Electronics or Science based Degree 2.1 minimum, an understanding of instrumentation would be beneficial.

 

 

 

Software Development Engineer

Omiga Technology Limited was founded in 2000 by a team of engineers skilled in data acquisition and control system development. The core development environment for most of the projects Omiga undertake is National Instruments LabVIEW. In house hardware design and manufacturing capability enables Omiga to offer a complete solution in some cases working with partner organisations providing expertise in specialist areas.

Based in Gloucester, Omiga provides solutions to companies primarily in the UK but working with partners we have provided solutions which are situated around the world.  Specialising in bespoke software development, system design and integration services utilising the latest technology to facilitate industrial automation, vision, R&D and ATE systems.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, interacting directly with customers to design and develop predominantly National Instruments LabVIEW based applications by:

  • Programming memory and speed efficient applications using LabVIEW and Object Oriented Programming and Event-based architectures
  • Developing intuitive GUIs
  • Providing timely, accurate and effective solutions to technical problems
  • Providing guidance on the installation and working functionality of both software and hardware, including explanation of configuration settings
  • Reproducing and troubleshooting problems and incompatibilities in both software and hardware
  • Travel in the UK, occasional overseas

Qualifications & Requirements:

All below are desired but not each one is essential, if you a combination of a few items below and are the right character it is definitely worth sending you CV as training will be provided:

  • Minimum 2.1 honours degree in engineering or science related field, such as Electrical/electronic engineering, physics, mechatronics or computer science
  • Minimum of LabVIEW qualification of Certified LabVIEW Developer, or capable of passing the exam within 3-6 months in house training
  • Minimum of one continuous year’s practical experience in, instrumentation & control, industrial automation and ATE is required
  • Knowledge and experience of National Instruments embedded systems, including LabVIEW FPGA and LabVIEW Real Time
  • Experience with all National Instruments hardware platforms, including DAQmx, cRIO, PXI and SCXI
  • Experience of National Instruments visual toolkits advantageous
  • Practical electrical debug experience
  • Experience in a second language of JAVA, C and C++
  • Ability to learn new skills/languages/applications quickly (MATLAB, JavaScript, STK, etc.)
  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks and enjoy working with people
  • Strong problem solving skills to analyse the problem and think creatively to provide a solution
  • Excellent written, oral and presentation skills are key
  • Ability to deal effectively with customers to make them successful is essential
  • Ability to get along with others and function as a team player as well as work effectively alone
  • A proactive/can do attitude is vital and a happy view on life
  • Passion/ Interest for learning new technology
  • Legal right to live and work in the UK. Sponsorship is not available
  • Must hold a full clean and valid UK driving license
